Healthy Shoulders & Hips Weekend
Saturday & Sunday, April 24-25
Healthy Shoulders: Saturday 1:30-4:30
The shoulders are involved in nearly every asana in a variety of different ways. They are also one of the most complex and frequently injured or strained parts of the body. Deepening your understanding of the shoulder joint will enable you to work more effectively and efficiently with your students.
In this workshop, we will:
1. Look in detail at the anatomy of movement and stability in the shoulder joint;
2. Identify the most common sources of shoulder problems and how they can be exacerbated or healed with specific yoga poses and related exercises;
3. Look at the anatomy of the shoulders in each of the its principal positions as expressed in specific asanas;
4. Discuss at how to work with students experiencing different shoulders conditions;
5. Explore appropriate modifications, use of props, verbal cues and hands-on adjustments.
Healthy Hips: Sunday 1:30-4:30
If you climb, run, surf, cycle, play volleyball, board, ski or just like to play frisbee at the beach, strong yet flexible hips are a key part of balancing power and freedom of movement. Yet playing sports (or even sitting around in chairs) creates tightness throughout the hip joint (in the flexors, extensors and rotators) that can limit your freedom and lead to sidelining injuries.
In this yoga clinic, we will look closely at how the hip joint optimally functions in work, play and sport alike. We will identify sources of weakness, instability, imbalance and tightness, then explore a variety of yoga pose sequences designed to help you develop the optimal balance of strength and flexibility for your lifestyle.
Price: $25 each
or both workshops for $45.
