The Teachers Teacher Mark Stephens will take you on a 4 day journey to deepen your knowledge and understanding of Yoga as a therapeutic practice.
Yoga has gone from being an exotic practice for the few, to a useful source of general well being for the many and a valuable complementary tool in modern health care. Extensive research from prestigious institutions like Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, Karolinska Instituttet and the University in Oslo, show Yogic techniques can help patients effectively in the treatment and rehabilitation process of a series of common aliments. Yoga therapy moves into the mainstream of the healing professions.
This Yoga Therapy Intensive is open to everyone interested in learning about the healing powers and practices of yoga therapy.
Join if you are a yoga practitioner, yoga teacher or yoga therapist. (Qualifies for 33 hours of Yoga Alliance Continuing Education for RYT 200 and RYT 500 teachers). This is definitely for you if you are a doctor of medicine or osteopathy, physiotherapist, chiropractor, clinical psychologist, nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, or a clinical social worker and want to learn more about how yoga can contribute in your patients healing process.

We'll stay at Storfjord Hotel, a secluded luxury boutique hotel near the Art Deco town of Ålesund on the westcoast of Norway. It's log buildings are surrounded by forest and situated on a hillside with a stunning view of the fjord and the Sunnmøre Alps.

Description / The Yoga Therapy Intensive
FOUNDATIONS, METHODS AND PRACTICES FOR COMMON AILMENTS

[[{"fid":"860","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Yoga Therapy Front Cover ","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"Yoga Therapy Front Cover"},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"2":{"format":"default","alignment":"","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Yoga Therapy Front Cover ","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"Yoga Therapy Front Cover"}},"attributes":{"alt":"Yoga Therapy Front Cover ","title":"Yoga Therapy Front Cover","style":"float: right; height: 375px; width: 300px;","class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"2"}}]]From ancient to modern times, liberation from suffering has been a primary leitmotif in yoga. Across the span of 3,000 years, innovative seers, sadhus and simple teachers have developed a vast array of asana, pranayama and meditation practices for cultivating a more balanced, integrated and joyful life.
In yoga therapy (yoga chikitsa), we adapt these and other healing practices to unique individuals to help heal what most ails our bodyminds. In this adaptation, we can usefully integrate the traditional insights of yoga and ayurveda with contemporary insights of medicine and the alternative healing arts, thereby guiding ourselves, our yoga students and yoga therapy clients in ways that help to make their lives the best they can be. In this intensive, we will first survey the theories and practices of healing found across the histories of yoga, ayurveda and scientific medicine, distilling methods and techniques with proven efficacy.
We will then apply these techniques to:
1. Musculo-Skeletal Ailments (including plantar fasciitis, collapsed arches, sprained ankles, Achilles injuries, knee injuries, hip problems, ISJ dysfunction, piriformis syndrome, generalized low back pain, lordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis, brachial plexus nerve entrapment, shoulder impingement syndrome, rotator cuff, pathologies, elbow tendinopathy and carpal tunnel syndrome).
2. Emotional/Behavioral Difficulties (including generalized anxiety, chronic depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and addictions).

This workshop is open for medical personnel, yoga therapists, yoga teachers, yoga practitioners and everyone interested in learning about the healing powers and practices of yoga therapy.
