Teacher Workshops
Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7, 2018:
Refined Teaching Skills: Anatomy, Alignment, Adjustments
Just as the principles of alignment and energetic action in asanas are best conveyed through functional anatomy and biomechanics, so are the the same qualities that help to guide our students in the best way possible with practical adjustments, verbal cues, and visual demonstrations. Each session on this topic focuses on different Asana families.

Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm:
Refined teaching skills applied to postures
We explore a wide range of asanas with outward and inward rotation and neutral hips, including modifications, variations and the use of aids for each asana.

Friday, December 7, 2018 from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm:
Refined teaching skills applied to backbends and rotational postures
We explore student guidance in all kinds of backbends - contraction, traction and support - including Salabhasana ABC, Bhujangasana, Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, Dhanurasana, Ustrasana, Kapotasana, Setu Bandha Sarvangasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana and Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana. We will focus on hands-on guidance and adjustments, the use of tools and modifications that will make the backbends safer, more accessible and deeper.

Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9, 2018:
The Art and Science of Sequencing: Transforming Transformative Yoga Classes
Most yoga classes today are either uniformly prescribed sequences (Ashtanga and Bikram), which often lead to repeated stress injuries or unnecessarily complicate asanas, or they seem to be a random creation in which the lessons are designed in a bizarre manner. In contrast, the art and science of sequencing invites us to make the lesson creative, yet rational and inspiring.
These two workshops focus on designing the classes in a way that is shaped by the basic principles of sequencing, beginning with Vinyasa Krama and Pratikriyasana.

Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm:
Apply the theoretical principles of sequencing to the design of a class
This workshop will begin with a talk on ancient to modern approaches to sequences and the principles of informed class design. We then apply these principles to the basic arc structure of classes and jointly design classes for different conditions and intentions.

Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am and 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm:
These two sessions focus on designing classes for beginners and advanced students as well as students with special conditions such as pregnancy and injury.

Master Classes
Friday, December 7, 2018 from 8:15 to 9:15 am:
Awake the Kundalini with morning pranayama
We begin sitting, in natural breathing, to adjust to the subtle effects of breath in body and mind. Afterwards we explore them with sama / visama vrtti pranayama. Next, we move on to Ujjjayi Pranayama as we perform very slow and small movements to arouse energy along the spine, refine our breathing capacity with Viloma Pranayama and Kumbhaka practices, awaken us with Kapalabhati, and balance our energy with Nadi Shodhana. After that, we will stay in the seat again, now in a blissfully awakened state, and perceive the sublime pleasures of yoga.

Friday, December 7, 2018 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am:
The progressive development of heart-opening backbends
The basic question when designing classes is why and after that? This question is explored in this flowing, backbone masterclass. Each successive wave of these heart-opening asanas is the result of preparatory movements and postures that make the backbends even more open, free and expansive.

Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am:
hip-opening armband
This master class begins with warming Surya Namaskaras and Dancing Warriors to open and stabilize the hips and shoulders and prepare for a range of easy to advanced arm positions (including Bakasana, Parsva Bakasana, Bhujapidasana, Tittibhasana, Astavakrasana, Eka Pada Koundinyasana, Galavasana, Urdhva Kukkutasana and Uttana Prasithasana). This comprehensive practice also includes therapeutic exercises for the wrists and shoulders to ensure full integration of the practice.

The workshop sessions are suitable for teachers and serious students; the master classes for beginners and advanced yoga students and teachers.
