Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics and Kinesiology in the Interrelations of Asanas

·       Description: Lecture and discussion on 1) how the requirements of sthira sukham asanam asks specific things of the bodymind in doing various asanas, 2) how this invites focus on specific muscular engagement, muscular release, anatomical form, and energetic action in each asana, and 3) how these specific foci are interrelated across the landscape of asanas both within and between asana families.

·       Objective: To learn functional and energetic interrelations among asanas as a key source of insight in designing and guiding all styles and levels of postural yoga practices (basic, flow, power, restorative, age/condition-specific).

Subtle Energetics in the Interrelations of Asanas

·       Description: Lecture and discussion on how we can develop practice maps that invoke different aspects of subtle energy, thereby informing the design of practices oriented around koshas, chakras, prana vayus, and doshas.

·       Objective: To ensure participants have a basic understanding of how to translate abstract concepts of subtle energy into concrete yoga classes.

Refining Qualities of Touch in Tactile Cuing

·       Description: Participants will be guided through a series of practical exercises designed to distill distinct qualities of touch that can convey clearer messages to students in giving tactile guidance in asana practices.

·       Objective: To help participants develop more nuanced skill in touching students in ways that provide more unambiguously clear instruction and guidance in modifying postural alignment and energetic actions in asanas.

·       Objective: To prepare teachers on how to ensure that students with musculoskeletal ailments practice yoga safely.
