After a brief overview of the principles of refined guidance and hands-on adjustments, we will do a series of practical introductory observational exercises for learning how to most effectively and clearly look at, see, and understand what is happening with different students in natural postural forms. This is the foundational work for developing more refined knowledge and skill in most effectively guiding unique students in their asana practice, with a primary emphasis on how to blend our verbal cues, physical demonstrations, and hands-on adjustments. We will consider many of the common myths and misunderstandings in asana practice and in teaching asanas, providing new and experienced teachers with

Thursday, December 5, 2016 from 1:30pm to 5:30pm: Refined Teaching & Hands-On Adjustments – External Rotation Standing Asanas

Friday, December 6, 2016 from 9:00am to 12:00pm: Cultivating the Most Delightfully Open Back Bends (Masterclass)

This three-hour Masterclass offers a graceful practice opening to the deepest and most sustainable back bends. We will explore how to best release deeply held tension in the hips, shoulders, and along the spine as we gradually move and warm to awaken energy and create spaciousness from the pelvis to the heart, little by little opening to more gloriously open and self-expressive heart-openers. Includes a 15-minute guided heart-centering pranayama and meditation practice.

Friday, December 6, 2016 from 1:30pm to 5:30pm: Refined Teaching & Hands-On Adjustments – Internal Rotation Standing Asanas

Returning to the Asana Lab, we will look in close detail at the alignment principles, energetic actions, risk issues, and modifications for standing asanas with neutrally and internally rotated hips, including standing balancing asanas, with a primary focus on seeing, understanding, and giving effective hands-on adjustments.

Saturday, December 7, 2016 from 8:00am to 10:00am: Waking Up on Top of the Day with Early Morning Flight (Masterclass)

Learn and practice an integrated sequence of meditation, pranayama, and movement kriyas designed to get your day started with the most fully awakened and balanced energy, mental clarity, and spiritual centering. Exploring from this awakened state, we’ll further warm our inner engines with breath and movements designed to prepare the arms, shoulder girdle, spine and hips for greater stability and ease. Then we’ll begin to fly, playfully exploring levitation in a variety of arm balances such as Bakasana, Galavasana, Eka Pada Koundinyasana, Astavakrasana, Utthita Prasithasana.
In exploring various flight paths, this Masterclass will offer an introduction to the art of flight to the novice yoga aviator and more advanced aeronautics to the more experienced self-pilots. Come playfully fly!

Saturday, December 7, 2016 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm: Refined Teaching & Hands-On Adjustments – Back Bends

We return to the Asana Lab to consider a variety of Backbends that involve different muscular and energetic actions, starting with contraction backbends in which the spinal erector and hip extensor muscles are the prime movers (such as Salabhasana) before exploring eccentric contraction backbends (such as Ustrasana, Kapotasana, and drop-backs into Urdvha Dhanurasana) and leveraged backends (such as Setu Bandha Sarvanghasana, Urdvha Dhanurasana, and Viparita Dandasana. With each will cover several different hands-on adjustment techniques.

Sunday, December 8, 2016 from 8:30am to 10:30am: Refined Teaching & Hands-On Adjustments - Forward Bends & Hip Openers

Moving to the floor for seated and supine asanas, we will consider asanas that invite even more patience in releasing deeply held tension in the back body and hips, exploring a variety of forward bends and hip openers.

Sunday, December 8, 2016 from 1:30pm to 5:30pm: Refined Teaching & Hands-On Adjustments - Twists & Inversions
