Teaching Better
Sun Salutations
Starts March 13

The profound gifts of Classical Sun Salutations and Surya Namaskara A/B were created in the 1920s by Sivananda and Krishnamacharya. We stand on their shoulders while gathering insight from 100 years of experience to refine their gifts.

Looking closely at each of twelve asanas and the various transitions in both Classical and A/B, we will consider a set of "remixes" to refine the sequences themselves. Going deeper, we will explore the micro-level qualities of movement into and out of each asana, alignment based on real student differences, and the energetic actions that awaken each moment of the flow.

Teaching Pranayama

Starts May 8th

Pranayama is among yoga’s most profound yet often misunderstood practices. In this 20-hour workshop, yoga teachers will explore its historical roots across yoga traditions and clarify common misconceptions about its original purposes and evolving role. Drawing on contemporary science, we will examine the effects of various breathing patterns on the nervous system, mental states, and overall well-being. Guided practices will bring theory into direct experience, offering accessible and adaptable pranayama techniques suitable for all students and teaching contexts. We will have wide-ranging discussions on integrating pranayama into class sequences, therapeutic applications, and daily life, highlighting its potential to foster clarity, balance, and resilience. You will gain renewed inspiration, a stronger grounding in both tradition and science, and practical tools for sharing pranayama with confidence and authenticity.

Sequencing Intensive

This 20-hour online course will revolutionize your approach to designing yoga classes. Based on a clear set of sequencing principles that are informed by yoga philosophy, anatomy, and modern learning theory, Mark presents a series of clear and engaging video lectures to give a key part of the foundation of the art and science of sequencing. The other part comes in 10 hours of live sessions via Zoom where we will work together in designing classes for different levels, styles, and student conditions.

Jen Van-Achteren

I thoroughly enjoyed this [Pranayama] course and learnt a great deal which had not been covered in my previous trainings. I feel inspired to play and explore my own pranayama practice and to support and encourage my students to do the same.

Jennifer Gentile

Mark Stephens' trainings [Sequencing] are very thorough and laid out in a logical way. The interactive sessions allow participants to feel included and heard, and Mark will dive into any topic full of knowledge and additional resources.
